Bluethroat in Lincs

paid homage to the south Lincs Bluethroat and got a wet leg and very muddy bum in the bargain --
Logic dictates that it is a first-winter male but According to Robins and Chats a first-winter male should have tawny or rufous buff fringes to greater coverts and tertials and I cannot seem to equate those features to this bird --- all are with the Canon 5D3, Canon 400 DO II and eitehr 1.4 or 2x mark 3 converters
