May 31st part 4

finally leaving the waders and heading for the Writing on Stone park the only Loggerhead Shrike of the trip was on the roadside along with the usual Meadowlarks and several Horned Larks - on arrival at the impressive sand carved stone site it was hot and sunny, shorts and T shirt day -- a walk around the trails produced flocks of 100's of Cliff Swallows and Violet Green Swallows nesting on the cliffs, Merlin, a passing Prairie Falcon, Turkey Vultures and a Ferruginous Hawk; Rock Wrens were present   with Grey Catbirds, Yellow Warblers and numerous Western Meadowlarks but the stars of the trail were a fine pair of Lark Sparrows
