Black-tailed Godwits at the Welney

the prospect of full sun on 3rd tempted me to Welney -- hmm full cloud to lunchtime then a couple of hours sun before it clouded over again --

Black-tailed Godwit numbers building with this large flock containing two colour-ringed birds that I had last seen on the Humber in December 2010 so nice to follow them to their spring staging area
A quick point -- large flocks of birds form some of our most memorable encounters with the avian world and yet photo competitions virtually never feature any such image with the exception of Starling roost flocks --why?
