Two local Marsh Harriers

variable light but low winter sun on Sunday making it tricky --- a juvenile possibly female and a 3cy or more male -- he flew down at something that the juv had also investigated earlier so presumably carrion in the reeds but neither bird managed to extract it possibly due to the machine guns rattling in the hide! best opportunities though for a long time now the number of hides has been reduced considerably

first of the winter Hen Harrier

in the gale and dullness yesterday afternoon this Hen Harrier passed through Alkborough heading for the Blacktoft roost -- plumage features and iris colour seem a bit ambiguous but we think its and adult female -- will it hang around -- not a single record at Alkborough last year so even one record is a positive -- terrible shots at high ISO and distant bird in really poor light
