Common Terns are back

about 8 today on the local pits -- hopefully they will fare better than the last two years with Mink / Otters taking all the young / eggs and no young fledging at all in 2017

hazy Gropper and Spoon

sun in Britain equals heat shimmer and distortion; one of two unco-operative Groppers found by someone without any bins walking the dog! and a nice but distant and hazy summer Spoon

Ring Ouzel and Mediterranean Gulls today

highlights of the pits today afternoon was a bit of a dead loss

Mute Swan serious fight

a pair of Mute Swans have a nest on this pit but today two males were in a pretty death like struggle with one male clearly trying to drown the other -- the female swam around them and occasionally tried to join in but I don't know which was her original mate -- at one point I thought one male was dead but it made it into a clump of reeds pursued by the second male -- outcome unknown
